Abstract

The present research aims to explore the meaning of heartbreak in the lyrics of the song "Pura-pura Lupa" by Mahen. The present research employs a descriptive qualitative approach grounded in Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The primary data source is the song lyrics, which are analyzed based on three aspects: denotative meaning, connotative meaning, and myth. The analysis is conducted in three steps: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings reveal the complexity of heartbreak experiences through three levels of meaning: (1) denotative, which depicts the journey of love, (2) connotative, reflecting emotional conflicts, and (3) myth, reinforcing the ideology of ideal love. The present research provides insights into the meaning of lyrics in a cultural context and the psychological impacts of love and loss.
