Analisis Alih Kode Lagu Ela Eynak Karya Nuha Bahrin: Kajian Sosiolinguistik
Keywords:

This study investigates the phenomenon of code-switching in the song “Ela Eynak” by Nuha Bahrin through a sociolinguistic approach based on Poplack’s (1980) theory. The research aims to identify the types, causes, and artistic functions of code-switching between Malay and Arabic within the lyrics. Employing a qualitative case study, the data were collected from the official lyrics of the song and analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that three types of code-switching: intra-sentential, inter-sentential, and tag switching—occur systematically and intentionally to enhance the song’s expressive quality. The use of Arabic highlights spiritual and emotional nuances, while Malay serves to narrate and convey intimacy. Code-switching functions not merely as a linguistic variation but as an artistic strategy to strengthen the song’s emotional and cultural depth. This study contributes to a broader understanding of how multilingualism operates in contemporary Southeast Asian music and suggests further research on audience perception and crosscultural expression in bilingual songs.Downloads
